Tetsu Lamp
Tetsu is Japanese for “iron”, and the name of the lamp is inspired by the manga character Tetsuwan Atomu, who fights for justice in a future world where humans and robots live alongside each other. A presumptuous name, Better Weather admits, but stand by the hopeful ambition.
“… a bit grandiose, but we liked it - and we see ourselves and the work we do in the struggles of Tetsuwan Atomu. Our focus is on fighting the meaninglessness of the staggering amount of waste we are generating in our parts of the world by trying to give it a new purpose. Bringing a kind of justice to the waste itself.”
Material
Tetsu is made from off-cuts from Lindab's production of roof and facade panels. The factory is based in the south of Jutland, and all production of Tetsu is made in-house. The material normally used for shielding buildings from the wear and tear of the weather has been purposed in the indoor space as a moderator of light and a creator of ambiance in our homes.
Design
In terms of design, it played a significant role in making sure the lamp could be flat-packed and disassembled into its individual components for waste sorting. Two overlapping curved metal plates shield the light source. Bolts on the outside of the lamp, which end the metal rods, draw the contours of an animatic and playful lamp.
Two overlapping curved metal plates shield the light source, which is focused downwards. The metal plates are held together by metal rods, which, together with the rounded corners, ensure a graphic and organic silhouette, an unexpected but ambient lighting, creating a clean, playful presence in any room.
The color harmonies for Tetsu are composed of the colorway Lindab has available in their product portfolio. These are colors such as ochre yellow and brick red, colors that are found in our soil, as they were adapted from the paint used on the original old farmhouses.
